ITB and Gotion Indonesia Forge Cooperation in Education and Research

Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) and PT Gotion Indonesia Materials officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Saturday, July 29, 2023, in Bandung. The partnership focuses on battery product research and various research activities at the Science and Techno Park (STP) ITB.

The MoU was signed by Prof. Ir. Taufan Marhaendrajana, M.Sc., Ph.D., Head of the Institute for the Development of Science and Technology (LPIT) ITB, and Antony, Executive Director of PT Gotion Indonesia Materials. This collaboration aims to enhance ITB’s research capabilities while contributing to the advancement of sustainable energy technology in Indonesia.

Gotion High-Tech, the parent company of PT Gotion Indonesia Materials, is a global leader in the production of electric vehicle batteries. Gotion’s key products include LFP and NCM materials, battery cells, battery management systems (BMS), and energy storage units, widely used in electric vehicles ranging from commercial vehicles to two-wheelers. Operating 14 manufacturing facilities worldwide and aiming for a production capacity of 300 GWh by 2025, Gotion is committed to supporting the global energy transition.

Since its establishment in 2022, Gotion Indonesia, headquartered in Jakarta, has served as the production and operational hub for Southeast Asia. Through its collaboration with ITB, Gotion Indonesia is expected to contribute significantly to the development of battery technology research in the country.

Prof. Taufan Marhaendrajana stated that the collaboration will benefit ITB by strengthening its education, technology, and research programs. A key area of focus is the newly established Master’s Program in Battery Technology. “The involvement of Gotion’s expertise and technology will enrich this program, making it even more relevant with the participation of both national and international industries,” said Prof. Taufan.

Moreover, PT Gotion Indonesia Materials’ involvement with ITB will create new opportunities for ITB students and researchers to enhance their skills in battery technology. This collaboration will allow them to actively participate in research and technology development at ITB’s STP, fostering innovation in both the national and international battery industries.

The partnership is expected to create a strong synergy between academia and industry, particularly in advancing renewable energy technologies in Indonesia.
